The HND in Sport and Exercise Science is an ideal progression from the HNC Sport and Exercise Science (Coaching Science), designed to deepen your knowledge and expand your practical skills within the sport and active leisure industry. You’ll gain the expertise needed to operate effectively, efficiently, and confidently across a range of professional roles, whether advancing your current career or pursuing new opportunities. 

This course emphasises hands-on learning and work experience, giving you the chance to apply your knowledge in real-world settings and develop practical skills that set you apart in the job market. You’ll explore both performance-focused coaching and participation-oriented approaches, with a strong emphasis on inclusion and enabling access to sport for all. 

You will bridge the gap between theory and application, developing a comprehensive understanding of human performance, health, and wellbeing while gaining experience in coaching, exercise prescription, fitness testing, and lifestyle management. The course reflects the dynamic nature of sport and exercise, ensuring you are equipped to adapt to emerging trends and challenges in this fast-paced industry. 

Staff Experience: All lecturing staff are vocational specialists. Fully qualified with vast industry knowledge.  

Teaching Methods: The course is delivered on campus and requires students to attend two full days per week. Additional days are required industry placements and experience. Delivery of the course is through a range of methods including lectures, seminars, case-study, discussions, and workshops.

Assessment Methods: A variety of assessment methods are used which include written reports, written assignments, literature reviews, group presentations, and the compilation of a learning journal.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

English language requirements: IELTS (Academic) Grade 6 IELTS 6.0 overall (minimum 5.5 in all components).

FEES AND FUNDING

You may need to apply for an enhanced DBS (approx. £44) depending on your work placement plans. You will need to purchase West Suffolk College Sport practical clothing. £22 – T Shirt £28 – Hoodie There potentially could be additional costs for external trips and visits. Costs will be dependent on travel and admissions process at the time.
