Course overview

The BSc (Hons) Interactive and Immersive Technology degree prepares you to design, develop, and produce cutting-edge digital experiences across a wide range of industries. You will learn to build interactive worlds, simulations, and applications using industry-standard software such as Unreal Engine, Unity, Visual Studio, Maya, and Substance. 

With the use of our cutting-edge XR Lab, the course offers flexibility to specialise in areas such as Development (Coding), Design, E-sports, or Content Creation. You will study modules covering multi-user experiences, the Internet of Things, world design, and playability, giving you the skills to create engaging, immersive, and interactive digital environments. 

Through projects, exhibitions, competitions, and optional placements, you will apply your skills to real-world challenges, preparing you for careers in interactive entertainment, computing, digital technology, automotive, healthcare, and other industries where immersive solutions and virtual modelling are increasingly in demand.

What you’ll study

YEAR ONE

In the first year, you will gain a solid foundation in interactive and immersive technology. You will learn core coding skills, 3D modelling, and the use of creation engines, while exploring the principles of user experience, immersive design, and team-based project development. This year sets the stage for applying creative and technical skills in more complex environments in later years. Modules include:

YEAR TWO

The second year builds on foundational knowledge to focus on multi-user experiences, research skills, and industry engagement. You will have opportunities to specialise through optional modules in areas such as advanced programming, world design, 3D animation, immersive audio, and IoT systems. Modules include: 

  • Multiuser Experiences 
  • Research Skills and Industry Engagement

YEAR THREE

In the final year, you will focus on independent research and complex projects, applying your skills to create innovative interactive and immersive experiences. You will have options to specialise in areas such as environment design, storytelling, data visualisation, real-time rendering, esports, and middleware. The year emphasises innovation, professional practice, and preparation for employment or further study.  Modules include:
