A new season of free public lectures covering subjects ranging from brewing and music to crime and local history will begin this month in Bury St Edmunds.
The Edmund’s Lecture Series is now in its fourth year.
The free events are open to the public and take place during the daytime and early evening at the University Professional Development Centre on Beetons Way in Bury St Edmunds.
More than 1,200 people attended the last programme, enjoying a wide range of talks while meeting fellow attendees over complimentary refreshments.
With another diverse programme planned for the coming year, co-organiser Daniel Connor is hoping to attract even more visitors. The history lecturer said: “We are excited to announce our new Edmund’s Lecture season to the public. This year we have an eclectic mix of lectures from experts covering everything from beer to Britain’s prison population. There are also several talks of local interest exploring the history of Bury through time and the Athenaeum, and the programme will feature an all-day crime conference. We also welcome speaker Professor Malcolm Gaskill back to discuss his new book about the strange world of early modern superstition.”

Daniel Connor added: “Our aim is to make university-level learning accessible to everyone. There really is something for everyone, and we cannot wait to welcome people to our relaxed university centre in the coming weeks and months.”
The first talk takes place on 15 October 2026, with events continuing through to June 2027.
