The XR Lab gives you hands-on access to industry-standard software and hardware, preparing you for careers that don’t just exist today, but will define tomorrow. 

Explore the design, development and production of interactive, immersive and entertainment experiences: simulations and solutions using cutting-edge technology.

You will learn how to use software such as Unreal Engine, Unity, Visual Studio, Maya, and Substance to build industry-relevant skills and applications that are in demand in Interactive Entertainment, E-sports, Computing, Digital Technology, Automotive, Healthcare, and many other industries.

This course provides an opportunity for students to develop as industry-oriented computer games designers. It combines theoretical grounding in visual art and media theory with all the practical hands-on experience you need to pursue a career in industry. Students will design, create, code and release their own games and digital assets throughout their studies and as an integral part of their programme.

The BSc (Hons) Digital User Experience Design course prepares you to thrive in the fast-evolving world of digital innovation. You will develop the practical skills, creative mindset, and technical knowledge to design user-centred digital products that are accessible, usable, and enjoyable. The course combines principles from psychology, design, research, and technology, allowing you to understand how people interact with digital systems and how to improve those experiences. 

The BTEC Higher National in Digital Technologies (AI Solutions and Applications) is designed for individuals who want to develop technical expertise in AI-driven solutions, preparing them for roles in software development, machine learning, data analytics, and intelligent system design.

E-Sports Production course is designed for students looking to build a career in the fast-growing esports and digital media industries. It offers a clear progression route for Level 3 E-Sports students, as well as new opportunities for Access to Higher Education or adult learners with an interest in broadcasting, content creation, and live event production.

GAME DESIGNER 

Salary: £18,000-£45,000+

Responsible for shaping the vision, structure, and player experience of a video game. They create the core gameplay concepts, rules, and mechanics, ensuring the game is engaging, balanced, and enjoyable. Game designers work closely with artists, programmers, writers, and producers to bring ideas from concept to reality.

XR DEVELOPER 

Salary: £20,000-£75,000+

Creates immersive digital experiences that blend real and virtual environments, including Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR). They design and build interactive applications used in gaming, education, healthcare, architecture, training, and entertainment.

E-SPORTS PRODUCER 

Salary: £25,000-£85,000+

Responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering live and recorded esports broadcasts, tournaments, and events. They oversee the production process to ensure a high-quality viewing experience for audiences across streaming platforms, arenas, and media channels.
