The HND in General Engineering builds on foundational engineering knowledge from the HNC to develop advanced technical, analytical, and professional skills. The programme equips you to tackle complex engineering problems across mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing contexts, combining theoretical understanding with practical application.

You will develop expertise in areas such as research, systems design, mechanical and electrical principles, advanced mathematics, and modern manufacturing technologies. The course emphasises real-world relevance, encouraging problem-solving, innovation, and professional decision-making while integrating ethical, sustainable, and safety considerations.

With a strong focus on employability, professional development, and industry-standard practice, the HND prepares students for senior technical roles or further study, including progression to a top up engineering degree. You will gain hands-on experience, work on industry-relevant projects, and develop the transferable skills needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving engineering sector.

Study in a vibrant and welcoming space at our University and Professional Development Centre, designed to support learners of all ages and backgrounds. From our well-equipped library and quiet study zone, to social spaces like Costa Coffee, to dedicated computer areas and an innovative XR Lab, you’ll have everything you need to excel. You’ll have access beyond timetabled hours, giving you the freedom to study, collaborate and work on projects whenever inspiration strikes.
